Here are the facts:
Flag amendment introduced in the 107th Congress
On March 13, 2001, Senators Max Cleland (D-GA), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Randy Cunninghim (R-CA), and John Murtha (D-PA) introduced a constitutional amendment that would authorize Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the U.S. flag.
United States Code Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8:
(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
Hypocrisy? You decide. It's simple, really...
